Minnesota Hearing and Service Dog

Mission Statement:

Hearing and Service Dogs of Minnesota is dedicated to helping Minnesotans who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, or disabled to become more independent and self-confident by pairing them with specially trained assistance dogs. The program carefully selects homeless dogs, often from local animal shelters, and trains them during a training period that last four months for Hearing Dogs and six months or more for Service Dogs. The dog, professional training and interpreting services, obedience instruction, medical care, food and supplies are given to qualified applicants at no charge.

Because some individuals are both deaf and have physical disabilities, we also train Special Skills Dogs which provide all of these services, both Hearing Dog and Service Dog skills, to one individual. We are the only organization providing this range of training in Minnesota.

Hearing and Service Dogs of Minnesota does not receive state, federal, or United Way funding, so we depend entirely on contributions from corporations, service clubs, and individuals. For this reason, your contributions are critical to our ability to continue to offer these unique services.
