The Minnesota Lions Eye Bank is a non-profit organization largely
funded by Minnesota Lions and affiliated with the University of
Minnesota’s Department of Ophthalmology.
The MLEB is the only eye bank in Minnesota.
The MLEB services Minnesota and surrounding areas.
The MLEB upholds the highest tissue quality standards and focuses solely
on eye banking.
The MLEB has been continuously accredited by the Eye Bank Association of
America and has passed all Food and Drug Administration inspections.
The Minnesota Lions Eye Bank prevents blindness and restores vision by recovering, processing and distributing donor eye tissue for corneal transplants and by providing eye tissue for education and for research.
Lions Children's Eye ClinicBack in the mid-1960's, when the board of directors of the young Minnesota Lions Eye Bank was confident that the organization was doing well, they asked the chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology for a project similar in scale to the eye bank. In 1969, the Lions Children's Eye Clinic opened. The clinic is now the second largest and best-staffed clinic of its kind in the country. Over four-thousand children were seen in the clinic last year. |
